What did you say?!

(35 weeks)

Useful comebacks to rude pregnancy comments:

  • "At least I made somebody's heart and brain today. What did you do?"

  • "You're huge too — and you don't have the excuse of another person living inside you." (love this one)

  • "Go ahead, but I'm not touching yours."

  • My own fav.- "Are you sure you aren't having twins" or "There is just one in there" (mentally I envision myself slapping them silly, before I smile sweetly and say "definitely only one, we've had it confirmed at 3 ultrasounds.") and then once I had someone actually tell me that the ultrasound may not always see the second baby...come on, at 22 weeks, I think they can tell.

Here is my vent:

It's one thing to feel big, and know you are big, and then hear from your family and close friends...that's something I can tolerate - barely........it's when a total stranger says something with no coulth that makes me see RED!! Q: How much longer? A: 5 weeks roughly...Add the eye popping, the "whew" response, and the "you're gonna have a HUGE baby" is when they should feel lucky to be alive. The nerve of some people surprises me over and over again. Have some tact. On the other side of coin, are the sweet strangers offering a smile, or a nice comment like "it won't be much longer" or "I remember how it felt to be at the end" or just in general a nice conversation focused on the baby NOT the size of me.

I have had the best pregnancy and I've been feeling happy and blessed, yes I am counting down - now, but mostly because I want to meet this baby not because I look/feel HUGE. After all, there is a beautiful soul in there working very hard to join our family, be loved & cherished.

Okay, well that's my vent out, and I do feel a little better, & it won't be long now!

We just spent 5 days in Abbotsford visiting family, and took Zoe to the Vancouver Zoo, and Aquarium. It was a fun time.

Now we are back to finishing all the last minute stuff, organizing our house, etc., our bathroom reno is almost done, baby room is almost done, feels like the end is near. Then the real chaos will begin!!

Robyin, you look pregnant - don't worry about other people. You look like one happy Mama to be, so enjoy and ignore these very ignorant people.

I was horrified when J MC in Kelowna said people come up and ask her if Hazel is adopted when they are out together minus Dad. It really is unbelievable these days how "in your face" people will be.

Not long now til D Day, I am sure you are getting to that stage, when you would really rather have this baby "out"! Hope the next few hot days don't make you too uncomfortable....enjoy these next few weeks, until, as you say chaos will begin!!! What wonderful chaos though!!! Take care.

Yes, it's amazing how ridiculous people can be. When I was explaining your post to Adam I said "5 years ago, you would never have heard such stupid things come out of someones mouth." I just don't know what is happening to society. Didn't anyones Mother teach them "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." It is a famous quote for a reason.

I think you look great and I think it's wonderful that you have felt so happy and healthy throughout your pregnancy. It's nice that we Mothers can relax through the 2nd pregnancy, because it's all old hat now!!

I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of the renos and of course of the baby's new room! Not long now!! You're on the home stretch!! Good luck!!

Hey , don't sweat it Robyn. I was only 20 weeks along with Ethan when the check-out lady at Safeway said to me, "well... it should be any day now hey dear?" I said, "NO" I grow them big cause I am only half way through my pregnancy. She felt DUMB!

In dumb-asses defense, Ethan weighed in at 10lbs 8oz... at 40 weeks, so I guess I was bigger than most when I was 20 weeks.
